John Bangos

My family immigrated from Greece. Initially, I was enrolled at Noble to learn the basics of the English language. After that, I transferred to Mackenzie High School. While at HS the language was still somewhat of a barrier in learning the material and making friends.

After High School, I joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska during the Great Earthqauke (magnitude 9.2). that struck the area in 1964. It was a close call when the barracks collapsed around me. I did not get hurt, but I was in shock for a while.

After the Air Force, I worked at Fabricon Products, Walter Industries and finally Verizon. My
specialty was mainframe telecommunications. I retired from Verizon in 2001. Since retiring, I have
been enjoying my outdoor hobbies. I am an active steward of the environment and enjoy
kayaking/canoeing and always looking for new waterways to explore.

I graduated from Tappan Junior High of Detroit in 1959. I Do have a year book from that school.
